Another Full House In Westgate WMC.
On stage was a three man band , Texas Gun, from Bonnie Scotland. There was, George Senior on bass and vocals, George Junior on lead guitar, keyboards and vocals and Ryan who is the junior, on rhythm guitar and vocals. Yes folks, Three Generations on stage. There was a good sound coming from the stage, they were singing, 'There's Your Trouble', good harmonies from three good voices. The next song was John Denver's, 'Country Roads', in which all the audience sang along, Gilly cheated, he was on the microphone. Wow what a terrific atmosphere. It was just like the old music halls. Another song that brought more laughter, 'Can You Feel It', the next song was a bit more serious, it was a song called, 'I Swear'. This was sung by the baby in the band, Ryan, what a great voice he has too. Again, some terrific harmonies. The final song of the set was, 'I'll Be Loving You Love Me'. Just wonderful, Texas Gun. Colin Ray's 'Love Me'. The audience just loved, ‘Texas Gun’. Tonight In the Albion Street Club, (The Nash), we have a good 'un in
Steve Andrews. As always he is immaculate in his stage wear. Steve usually checks the audience and sings songs to suit. He always seems to get it right too. Steve opened his set with a Drifters song, 'Save The Last Dance For Me', from the first song Steve was going well, the second song was a David Alexander song, 'The Answer', Shirley, a well known local lady joined in with this one. After a couple of one liners Steve sang a Jerry Lee Lewis hit from the 1950's, 'Great Balls Of Fire'. After a tour of the audience he sang one by the Four Tops, Sugar Pie Honey Bunch'.'As I Love You' was Steve's next song, Originally sung by Shirley Bassey. What a personality Steve is. Neil Sedaka's 'Oh Carol' followed and he was signing it to, ‘Shirley’. Steve was resident in Blackpool Tower for around 10 years and his vast experience shone through tonight. Next was a song seldom heard in the clubs, a Julie Rogers song, 'The Wedding'. The final song was a Conway Twitty big hit, 'It's Only Make Believe'. A very entertaining set from, Steve Andrews. Glasshoughton Club had a change of Artiste on stage tonight; on stage it's Jamie Lee Lewis. Very smart in appearance, he has a fine voice, good equipment and backing tracks, he opened his show with Olly Murs, 'Dear Darling', I saw Jamie in a show last week, he was singing in a duo called Second Journey. His second song was Billy Ocean's 'Love Really Hurts'. The club was quite busy tonight but there were some familiar faces missing who, I was told, were on holiday. Next was a Marty Wilde song, 'Teenager In Love', also recorded by Dion And The Delmonts. On with the show, a Drifters medley, 'Come On Over To My Place'. 'Kissing On The Back Row Of The Movies', amongst others. Jamie went on to sing a Roy Orbison song, 'I Drove All Night', that one was outstanding. There was Culture Club song, 'Karma Chameleon. You don't hear a song for months then you hear it again within a couple weeks. Jamie ended his set with a Meatloaf song, 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad'. Yep! A good set Jamie Lee Lewis.
Saturday Night In Ferrybridge WMC.
Tonight Pat and I are headed to see an old friend, Terry Webster in a crowded Ferrybridge Progressive club. Terry started off in 1957, He formed a band called, 'The Jack O' Diamonds', Terry was the lead singer, comedian and guitarist with Dave Bradley on guitar and vocals, Terry McAvoy was the Tea Chest bass player with Phil Bonner on the 'Drum'. Well he only had the one in those early days. Terry’s sister Patricia Webster joined the band soon after as a vocalist too, she later became Patti Brook. In later years he was in a band called Dictionary. Terry's has a lot of comedy so he did 2 X 45 minute sets. Terry opened his show with, 'Johnny B Goode' and a few others in a 60's medley, the club members were singing along from the first song. His stage outfit were a pair of striped black and red trousers, crimson jacket, like the shoes. He played his own guitar solos, all the backing tracks are made in his own studio. Impersonations were, Mick Jagger, James Brown, The Bee Gees, Norman Wisdom and absolutely loads more. I could go on all night but I think you get the drift. There were so many styles, Rock And Roll, Motown and Skiffle. I liked The Late Marvin Gaye songs. In fact there was nothing I didn't like in Terry's show. Cliff Richard, Emile Ford, Hank Marvin, Jet Harris, Little Richard, Sam Cook, were all featured in the show. Terry was lead singer in the Rockin Berries and had a million seller with, 'He's In Town ‘You have to make Terry Webster a must see. My chosen venue tonight is The Prince Of Wales WMC.
The entertainment tonight is my friend John Fitzpatrick. I don't need to go into detail about his stage wear and sound equipment because it's always tip top. He started his show with his signature song, 'How Do You Do', this is a Matt Monro song, a very popular opening, and onward with a Clarence 'Frogman' Henry song followed by an Englebert Humperdinck hit song. John's voice just gets better, it has been a couple of months since I saw him and his gorgeous missus, Sharon. Now we are going into the 1950's with a Frank Sinatra song, 'Sunny Side Of The Street'. Lots more followed and went down really well. John Fitzpatrick is a seasoned entertainer, I have followed his progress over the last couple of years and he always delivers a good show. He ended his set with a John Legend hit, 'All Of Me'. Good stuff John. Set two was equally good from John, he opened with a Johnny Burnette song, 'You're Sixteen', onto songs by Emile Ford, a couple of Elvis songs followed, the majority of his songs were right for the age of the audience. Well they were singing along and listened to every song. I usually have a look around the room for the responses of the audiences in the clubs. It's a known fact that john does do a Matt Monroe tribute, this next song was his first big hit, 'A Portrait Of My Love. Followed by, 'The Impossible Dream'.What a show from the man himself, John Fitzpatrick. |
