Top Hat Charity Show…
It was a very warm Friday night at the Top Hat, (Albion Street ) club in South Kirkby; the concert room was busy as it usually is at this club. The entertainment tonight was for a Charity show in aid of, ‘Maddie’s Dream’. Compering was Ashley Jackman a top class guitar/ vocalist and very good he is too. He opened the show with a couple of songs, one being Dire Straits, ‘Walk Of Life’. He introduced local artistes, Kevin Kane; Kevin is well known and liked in these parts, as always he is immaculately dressed on stage and has a fine voice which was in tip top form. He opened his part of the show with a few songs and lots of spontaneous comedy one liners. I liked the songs he chose especially, ‘Open Arms’ and ‘Got A Good Thing Going’.
After an interval for the bingo Ashley introduced the larger than life comedian, ‘”Big G”. well he was very funny and there were some more
spontaneous jokes from ‘G’. A great spot Graham... It was good to see Debbie marx and Ricky Graham there supporting the show...
I was told later that a young lady called Charlie Jade who is half of a two sisters duo called 'Just Us', did a smashing set; I’m sorry I couldn’t stay but I hope the show went well…
I called in at Westgate Common Club where Roy Biggins was playing his keyboard for anyone who wanted to “Give a Song”. There were plenty of volunteers and the night went pretty well for the first night. Roy played every Friday and Sunday in the now closed City Club lounge and had a good following. It would be good to see some of these people in Westgate Common and get the place going on Friday Live Music…
