FRIDAY 10 JUNE 2011 ....American Style Wrestling... Paul,Kew sent me a message telling me of this event; good on you and your committee Paul, nothing ventured, nothing gained.The show starts at 7pm;Tickets are £6.00.This is a family friendly event... Tickets are available on the door on the night... Danny Tetley at the 'Boot & Shoe. The Boot & Shoe in Ackworth was as usual the place to be on a Tuesday night; the two presenters on stage, Karen King and Dave Seville were in fine voice both singing a couple of songs to open the show. The guest artiste for the night was Danny Tetley who is well known for being on the T/V reality show, ‘Pop Idols’ a few years ago. Danny has a unique voice and chooses his songs carefully for his audience. ‘As If We Never Said Goodbye’ was welcomed with a silenced audience and a tremendous ovation at the end of the song. Some more of Danny’s songs were, ‘Blue Moon, Loco In Acapulco and a superb Motown medley. There was lots of comedy without even telling an actual ‘Joke’, Danny is naturally a funny guy. He competed his first set with a Shirley Bassey song, ‘This Is My Life’. An excellent performance from the one and only, “Danny Tetley… Katie Is A Winner!!! Outwood club was the venue for KT Star on Sunday night; she looked great in a blue dress and shoes to match. Katie recently won the Hull Daily Mail Talent Trail at the Hull City Hall. Well done KT Star... You are a Star... The concert room was fairly busy as Katie took the stage for her first set, she sings songs from all eras which suited the members here. Some of her songs from the 50’s/ 60’s were, ‘At Last’,Oh Carol’, ‘Bobby’s Girl’ and ‘Where The Boys Are’. Two other songs in her first set were, ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ and a lovely rendition of, ‘I Dreamed A Dream’... There were people coming to speak to Katie after her first set who congratulated her on her lovely voice..She will be appearing at Westgate common Club in Wakefield on Saturday June 18th... Horbury Just Love Lee Lambert... The concert room at Horbury was very busy on Saturday night when the artiste on stage was 17 years old Lee Lambert. He looked very smart on stage wearing a shiny blue suit with an electric pink shirt complete with matching tie AND patent leather shoes. His voice is absolutely superb and his stage presence, well, just fabulous. The wonderful sound was operated by Dave, [Lee’s dad]. He opened his show with ‘Cry Me A River; which went down well with the audience. Lee has thought long and hard about his set list and included songs to suit literally everyone. ‘Sometimes When We Touch’, ‘The Hand That Leads Me’, ‘One Night Only’, a soul and Motown medley which had the dancers on their feet. Lees last set opened with a new song on me, ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’. What a show from this multi talented young man; he has the voice, personality and charisma. He has landed a summer season at the Club Tropicana and just lives for his music...Lee Lambert, need I say more, It was only a few weeks ago that rumours were rife about the Wakefield City Club closing; well if Friday night was anything to go by, this club will be with us for many more years. The convcert room was very busy as was the lounge and games room. In the lounge, Roy Biggins was entertaining the members with his keyboard with some of the members, 'Giving Us A Song'. In the Concert room was Carl Ashington; The ladies favourite, He was in fine voice as he sang his sould and motown songs. Carl has a great lights show with multi coloured laser beams flashing round the club. You must see this guy if you like your soul/motown music, he is one of the best... Another super show from Red Rocks, Helen and Brad, at Featherstones B&S club on Friday night . All the latest technology features in their show with video clips on the screens behind them. They opened the show with, 'You Gave Love A Bad Name' and followed with lots of the classic rock songs, Bed Of Roses, A Bat Out Of Hell, they were all there. The members were singing along and knew all the words of the songs. Helen and Brad are going their seperat ways at the beginning of June which seems a shame but they both decided on a change of direction. Good luck to both of them; they still remain firm friends. Brad will go out with Debbie Dee as RED and Helen-Marie is to go solo... The Oliver Twist…
The Oliver Twist was busy on Thursday night when clubland singer and show presenter Karen King, looking lovely as usual and wearing a great big smile, introduced the twin brothers, Paul and Robert, who are the comedy duo, ‘The Sharpe Experience’.They were on form and had the audience howling with laughter. They are really doing well in the clubs and are to do a show in the London area', (hush hush at the moment), I wish them well. After the duo Karen introduced artistes from clubland who included, L/R, Sassy, (Amy and Debbie), Joanne Little, The Sharpe Experience, Mark Gunjal and Simply 'H'..., It was a full house the second quarter final of the Wakefield Star Search at Westgate Common Club in Wakefield;
Jonathan Carroll opened up the show with a Lionel Richie song, ‘All Night Long’. There were five contestants hoping for a place in the semi finals, the first was Batley girl Jade Helliwell. Jade looked good in a red dress over black leggings.A couple of hers songs were, ‘Left Outside Alone, Perfect and one of her own compositions (in which she accompanied herself on guitar) called, ‘Would You’. I really enjoyed that one. Next was two boy duo from Leeds, ‘Destination Unknown’; they appeared dressed as the Blues Brothers and sang, ‘Someone To Love’, another of their songs was an up tempo version of the Everly Brothers, ‘All I Have To Do Is Dream’. Good spot guys. Closing the first half was soprano Leslie Carr from Middlestown looking lovely in a dress. I have always thought that Leslie would be a success in musical theatre. Tonight she sang, ‘Tonight’ and a superb rendition of, ‘The Music Of The Night’. ‘Dance With My Father’ was Jonathan’s opening song in part two. He introduced Manchester girl Danielle Hobson, wow, what a voice. Danielle was wearing a short black and white dress adorned with silver glitter and a black belt festooned with silver studs. Danielle sang, ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ and ‘The Climb’ in her set. The final act was Hull man Dean Moon who was dressed in a smart suit; Dean has a strong voices and sang in his set,’ Mental As anything’ and ‘The Answer’.Dean has a wicked sense of humour in his act, I liked the one about his grandmother, well you see..... no, wait until you see his act. The judges decided to send Danielle Hobson, Destination Unknown and Jade Helliwell through to the semi finals... Group Picture, left to right, Jade Helliwell, Danielle Hobson and Destination Unknown. Karen King and Dave Seville one again hosted the Tuesday night cabaret at the "Boot and Shoe in Ackworth. the guest artistes this week was the ever popular Chris Lafferty. Chris has a very strong voice and can sing in almost any style. The songs i have chosen out of his very impressive first set are, 'Human, She Bangs, dance With My father and a song which Chris sang in Italian called, ...wait for it... 'Nella Fantasia' which means , 'In My Dreams', (I Think).
After Chris's first set Dave sang Bad Romance and Karen sang, 'Never Never Never', which is a song I never tire of hearing Karen sing.The first guest artiste was young Heidi Mills, a former pupil of Sasha Lawrence; Heidi sang in her sweet voice, 'Aver Maria and Adele's "Make You Feel My Love", Then there was Bob Taylor who gave us a couple of Elvis Presley songs. Then we heard the lovely tones of Lucas Primmer. He sang 'Over The Rainbow and Someone Like you.Yes, Another top night of entertainment at the Boot and Shoe. Pictured below are, Heidi Mills and Karen King, Chris Lafferty, Lucas Primmer. dave Seville and Karen King and finally, Bob Taylor.. |
