Come and join us at the Ship, Horbury Bridge, On Saturday 18th April For Karaoke/ Disco
With Paul Our Resident DJ, 7.30 till late... All Welcome Today, The 15th Of April Is The 41st Wedding Anniversary Of
Chris, (Gilly) And Mags Gill. Happy Anniversary you guys. Over To Gilly's Traditional Country Music Club.
Tonight we have a Father and Son duo, Clear Cut. It's Don on guitar and vocals and Darren is on, (here we go again), Keyboards, Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals, sound and anything else he can get his hands on. The bass and drums were on click tracks. Some of their songs, 'On The Road Again', a Willie Nelson classic, 'Mess Of Blues', an Elvis Presley hit from 1960.'Copperhead Road'. One called 'Confederate Grey'. One I really like is, 'Don't Close Your Eyes', a Keith Whitely song. Well sung Don. Next was an Alan Jackson song, 'Mercury Blues'. I'm getting good with these titles. Il Silenzio was recorded by many people. Darren swapped instruments again, onto a piano accordion and played, Galway Girl'. A good set from Clear Cut. Loved it. Tomorrow the 15th is the 41st Wedding Anniversary of Chris, (Gilly) and Mags. Happy Anniversary you guys. Back to normal and here I am in Castleford WMC,(The NASH). On stage tonight is the lovely Kirsty Anne; she looks good in a pink skirt and a sequinned top. Like the shoes. She opened with a song called 'Does Your Mother Know'. 'Stuck In The Middle', a Stealers Wheel recording. One by the Overtones, 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love', the original singers were, Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers. It was a usual busy night in the NASH and the members seemed to like Kirsty-Anne, she is a lively young lady. Her next song was a Beatles favourite selection in a medley. There were songs by the Drifters, It was a good show from Kirsty Anne. She closed the set with, oh yes she did, 'Penny Arcade', Well done Kirsty Anne. Jade Helliwell Will Be Launching Her Debut Album
'Secrets' The Event Is At Warehouse 23 In Wakefield On May 1st Also Performing Are, 'Rupert Stroud' And 'The Spirit Of Smokie', Doors Open At 7pm Tickets £5 and £6 on the door. After the Blackpool Command Show on Friday I'm pleased that a lady from Wakefield, Amy Thomas, has been chosen for the best female category award. This will be held at the National Concert Secretaries Showcase on Sunday September 6th in the New Brunswick Club in Blackpool.
This follows Amy's success and a top performance; there was lots of positive and excellent feedback. Congratulations Amy Thomas... Glasshoughton WMC was very busy when I arrived late tonight. On stage was a good friend / entertainer, Jon Alex. He carries good sound equipment and has an excellent voice. He had literally walked onto the stage and was singing, 'Here Comes The Sun', one by the Eagles was, 'Lyin' Eyes'. Another was ‘This Is The Life', an Amy McDonald song that I always seem to forget the title and artiste Jon put me right on that one. The Travelling Wilburys, 'Handle With Care'. Plenty more songs where that came from, I liked a Kinks medley, (saves me remembering the titles). All the first set of songs in the set was played on guitar and a swift costume change and a switch to his keyboard saw emerge him as Sir Elton John. He sang 'Rocket Man', what an all round entertainer Jon is. More of Elton John songs followed. He finished his set with, 'Crocodile Rock'. A wonderful set, Jon Alex. The Ship Public house in Horbury Bridge.
The pub has recently been taken over by Kirsten and Iain Jackson and will be serving Sunday lunches and daily lunches, Karaoke on Saturday nights. Every second Sunday the Ship will be the meeting place for a Volkswagen motor car club. In the near future there will be a music and questions Quiz. ( I'm looking forward to this one). Why not come down and ‘Support this smashing couple’; Kirsten and Iain Jackson Tonight I am at one of my usual Sunday venues, The Prince of Wales club in Pontefract. On stage tonight it's Sam Miggell; Sam looks good in her stage outfit, like the shoes. She has a cracking voice and opened her show with, 'Hero', there had been a christening party in the club today so the tills were ringing. There is a new bar manager in the club these days, Luke. Let's keep visiting the club and support this young man. There's not a lot in the club but it usually gets busier. ‘One Way Or Another'’ was Sam's opening song, tonight, I love her rendition of this song. 'Everything I Do' was a another I liked'. One I haven't heard for many years was, an Alison Moyet, 'All Cried Out', Sam likes a laugh in her show and drops a few one liners into her show. Well done Sam Miggell. |
