Tuesday In The Nash, (Albion Street WMC, Castleford. and Gilly's CMC In Wakefield.
Tonight at the Nash was X Factor singer, Alan Turner. As I walked in Alan was singing, 'Working Man'. Songs from the Bee Gees, 'Words'. Michael Buble’s, ‘I Just Haven’t Met You Yet’. All the songs had a video playing with the artiste singing the songs and ‘No’, Alan wasn’t miming. More songs were, 'Run-around Sue' a Dion and the Delmont’s song. Frank Sinatra, 'Come Fly With Me'. Neil Sedaka’s, 'Oh Carol'. Alan closed his first set with Frankie Laine's 'I Believe'. Well done Alan Turner... Gilly's in Wakefield wasn't as busy as usual tonight; on stage was a favourite of the Country Clubs, Ken Durans. He has a terrific voice. As I entered the concert room he was singing an Eagles song, 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' followed by a Dr Hook song, 'A Little Bit More', love that one. Ken's music was his guitar which he is good on, and some superb tracks. His voice is great and distinctive The crowd were hanging on to every note, word and showed their appreciation for every song. There was a George Jones song, 'You'll Never Know How Good You Are'. a Hank Williams song for Mary, Ken sang a great version of , 'For The Good Times'. The version I know was by Parry Como. As ABBA sang, Ken, 'Thank You For The Music'. It was great... Glasshoughton WMC was very busy again tonight, (I think I’ll miss that phrase out in future, it’s always busy on Monday nights). On stage tonight was Jamie Lee Lewis, he was formerly with the duo, Second Journey until recently. Jamie’s partner in the duo, David Ogley has taken over as manager of the Kirklands Hotel in Outwood, Wakefield and is doing well. Tonight Jamie was dressed head to toe in a black outfit; he has a strong voice, his stage equipment, sound, Lights and Banners. He opened his set with an Olly Murs song, going on to songs by the Drifters, Bobby Vee and many others. I liked his last song, another Olly Murs song, ‘Trouble Maker’. A very good first set... George Vth Club Very Busy Too It’s Country Music Night on every other Monday here in the ‘George’ where ‘The Collier Dixon Line’, are resident and have been for many years now but the attendance is always good. On lead vocals and guitar it’s Dennis Collier, lead guitar and vocals it’s Stuart Duffy, on bass and vocals its “Biff”, and on drums and vocals, we have Johnny Young. It was great to listen to the songs of Hank Williams, Don Williams, The Everly Brothers, Merle Haggard and many more. The song I particularly liked was the Don Williams song, ‘Legend In My Time’. I Used to sing this in my early days when playing me keyboards Don’t forget folks, George Vth, Every Other Monday Night; It’s Country Music Night at its very best with, ‘The Collier Dixon Line’. Be Early for the best seats. Lee Mount WMC, Halifax. I haven’t been in this club since my Dean Stanton Four days, way back in the 1960’s. Blimey, there were some members there who remembered me from those days. On stage tonight was top singer, John Fitzpatrick, has good strong voice and covers lots of styles of music. I do, as everybody knows, go to lots of venues and see lots of new and older acts and some I haven't seen for quite some time. John opened his first set with his signature song, 'How Do You Do'. There were lots of requests from the floor. I will say that John has put a couple of new songs onto his set, Gary Barlow's, 'Let Me Go' and James Blunt's 'Heart To Heart'. He’s certainly on top form tonight. Jimmy Justice and The Drifters were featured. Yes, lots of songs from the early 60's and more modern. One for me.... 'Red', a Daniel Merryweather’s song. Yet another good night for John Fitzpatrick. The Admiral Duncan was reasonably busy tonight. The band performing was, Loaded, a soft rock covers band. I don't really know a lot of their songs, I did pick up on a few of the titles,, 'Tonight I'm A Rock And Roll Star'. 'Use Somebody', one called, 'Oh Sit Down' by James. I knew the Rolling Stones song, 'Jumping Jack Flash', There were many more and the crowd were enjoying what they did. Loaded folks... In the Admiral Duncan tonight was Paul who was really enjoying their show. Paul appreciates the fact that the Admiral Duncan is coming back to its former glory and is on the up. There was one for Pat, who by the way is feeling a little better, Elvis's, 'Hound Dog'. A good show from, Loaded.
Coming to The Admiral Duncan on:- Saturday May it’s, 'Vinyl Legacy.' Saturday 10th we have, 'Sully’s Heroes'.. Pictured Below it's 'Loaded'. The Comrades Club in Heckmondwike was very busy tonight where the trio, Carefree were performing for the last time. This band has been performing in our clubs for around, 7 years. Rob and Martin, a top class keyboards player are to hit the clubs in a duo called, 'Festival'. Graham and his son Mark have joined a Charity Band. When we arrived,, bingo was in progress and, No we didn't win....
Well back to tonight, Carefree were, as always looking very smart in dark suits compete with waistcoats, white shirts and ties. Liked the shoes. They opened their show with a Small Faces song, 'Sha La La La La Lee', the sound was good. The line up is Graham on lead guitar and vocals, Rob is on guitar and lead vocals with Mark on bass and vocals. Songs from the Searchers','When You Walk In The Room', The Eagles, Thin Lizzie and The Rolling Stones were featured. There was a request for The Eagles, 'Lying' Eyes’.
