The Wakefield Pontefract & District Concert Secretaries Federation
The concert secretaries meeting this month was at the George Vth club in Castleford. After the meeting there was a showcase that the fantastic Michaela May was commere. Anybody who knows Michaela will know that we were in for a great time. She opened the show with a couple of songs, ‘Breathless’and ‘Alone’. She sure was on form. The first act Michaela introduced was Hull singer, Dan Furniss who was immaculately dressed in a very smart suit and shirt, LTS. A couple of Dan’s songs were, ‘Feeling Good’, ‘Higher& Higher’ and ‘You Don’t Know Me.
Next was a lady from Merthyr Tydfil in North Wale called Tanya Taylor. She was dressed in a black trouser suit. A couple of her songs were, ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go’. Tanya has quite a good voice.
After the interval Michaela introduced Barnsley’s Elaine Carpenter who also wore a trouser suit over a black sequined top. She has a nice mellow voice and sang in her set, ‘When We Were Young And In Love’ and ‘I’m Gonna Be Strong’.
The next act was Dean Lunn from Wakefield; Dean has been singing with bands for quite a few years now and has a strong voice. Tonight he sang, ‘My Mothers Eyes’, ‘If I Never Sing Another Song and ‘I Will Drink The Wine’.
The final act was a young lady from Pontefract who is Kim ‘B’, she looked great in a short blue dress and LTS. Kim has a good voice and good stage presence. She chose to sing, Petula Clark’s ‘Down Town’, Duffy’s ‘Mercy’, Alexandra Burke’s ‘Hallelujah’, Emelie Sande's. 'Next To Me' and Shakira's, 'Africa'.
It's thank you to Sasha T who was my assistant tonight; she did a sterling job remebering the songs I didn't catch the titles of, (She was handsomely paid for this mamoth task... 20p ...Well it was all the loose change I had)...
A good night of entertainment; I hope each of the acts managed to get some work from the showcase...
