New Year’s Eve 2011.
Pat and I started our tour at a very busy Crigglestone club on the outskirts of Wakefield. On stage was a smartly dressed four piece, (three guitars and a drummer), rock and jive band who are new to me called, ‘The Moonshiners’. The lead singer has a great voice which suited anything he sang; there were songs by the Travelling Wilbury’s, Shakin’ Stevens, ‘Marie-Marie, and many more. A brilliant sound from the, ‘Moonshiners’; all brilliant musicians,The dance floor was very busy from the first couple of notes of their first song. A great and a happy atmosphere.
Netherton club
near Horbury was very busy; on stage was the latest band in the area, the very smartly dressed, ‘Vinyl Legacy’. This 60’s harmony band I’m sure will be very busy in 2012. The line up is, Mick on lead vocals and drums, Norman on bass and vocals, John on guitar and vocals, Trevor Sarget on guitar and vocals and Trevor Midgley on yes you got it, guitar and vocals. The sound is terrific, the harmonies are very close and the song choices, excellent. Incidentally, both Trevor’s were members of the 70’s band, ‘Badfinger’. There were songs by, Gerry And The Pacemakers,'Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying, The Searchers, 'Needles And Pins(er) The Byrds,'Hey Mr Tambourine Man, 'The Swinging Blue Jeans,' You're No Good', 'The Yardbirds', Heartful Of Soul' and 'The Beatles', 'Ticket To Ride' just to mention a few. There was an instrumental showing off the skills of the musicians; this was Fleetwood Mac’s Albatross. Let’s hope Netherton club gets back to its former glory and that the local residents give their support.
CC Ryder At The Horse & Jockey.
I know this pub is not very big but the welcome we got there was Big, the place was busy, there was free food there and it looked delicious. The landlady Karen Whartn,
(who at one point was wearing a gold top but changed later), is a real bundle of fun as is her good friend Karen Cockroft. Blimey they we re never still. Behind the bar was Tom who was a barman at the Lupset; Tom was doing a great job and no one was kept waiting; well done Tom. The entertainment was provided by Carn who is an Elvis Presley tribute act and a very good one too. He was dressed the part in a white jump suit adorned with silver buttons? All the Elvis songs were there, some I had forgotten about. The older songs I did remember included‘ If I Can Dream’, ‘My Boy’, ‘His Latest Flame’ and many more. Another Elvis tribute singer was, ‘In The Building’, it was Kevin King who sang ‘An American Trilogy’. What a fabulous night we had at all three venues.
On a personal note, “Thanks everyone for all the trouble you went to for your friends and customers “A Happy New Year To You All”.
