The show in aid of the Sahara Trek, for the Prince Of Wales Hospice was a great success with all five artistes giving top class performances. Compere Jonathan Carroll opened the show with a couple of well chosen songs; he introduced Harry Turnstyle who sang in his set, ‘Tainted Love’, and added lots of comedy with his famous one liners, Thank you Harry for the use of your PA system. Amy Thomas who is a Operations Manager at the Prince Of Wales Hospice in Pontefract sang a song completely new to me called, ‘Mary Don’t You Know’. Yet another great voice. KtStar travelled up from Cambridge to appear on the show, what a voice this lady has, in her set she sang some of Adele’s top songs which went down really well as well as other songs; one was a super version of Poker Face. After the interval for fund raising, (raffles and an auction of an electric Guitar donated by local Wakefield Historian Kevin Grundy) and proceed of a meat tray donated by the club’s Pool Team and a bingo flyer organised by committee man Bill, £300 was raised). Jonathan came back on stage and sang, a couple of songs; he introduced Sonya, anyone who knows this lady will know we had some real comic lines in between her lovely singing. I liked her Shakin’ Stevens medley and so did the crowd. The final act was the young star, Lee Lambert who impressed the minute he walked on stage. What an artiste he has turned out to be, a great voice and an equally great personality; he sang lots of songs and even invited Sonya to sing a duet with him in the song, ‘Sex On Fire’. What a super night of entertainment… one more mention, "The Audience", you were superb…
Grandpa T Smith... Hey Grandpa, What A Show!!! Despite very cold weather on Tuesday night there was a good crowd in at Gilly’s CMC to see welcome country singer good ole Grandpa T. Smith. This elegant gentleman has style, a good voice and good presentation. He was dressed in a western style shirt and black trousers and yes! 'I liked the shoes', yes sir they were great… In his set Grandpa T sang George Strait’s ‘The Cowboy Rides Away’, Alan Jackson’s ‘Living On Love’ and one for me, ‘What Colour Is The Wind Daddy’, a Charlie Lansborough song. Another good night at Gilly’s The P45's Craig is pictured on the right... Recently I had a chat with my friend Craig Palmer who is half of the well known and popular duo, 'The P45’s'. Craig told me that he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer and had undergone a major operation to remove the tumour. He has asked me to publish this fact. I wish Craig a speedy recovery ... The Beverly Arms was pretty busy on Tuesday night; this new music venue is becoming very attractive for entertainment. Tonight local entertainer Steve Rose was on stage and in tip top form; Steve has a super voice and a great presentation; his sound equipment is top class. Some of Steve’s songs we heard were, ‘Run’, ‘There Goes My everything’, ‘The Impossible Dream’ ‘The First Cut Is The ‘Deepest’, I particularly liked the Edison Lighthouse’s song, ’Have You Ever Seen The Rain’,Steve sang that one really well. You will have to check out this wonderful entertainer... Glasshoughton's; Busy Mondays. <--- Like The Picture (Well It makes A Change from LTS Mark Turver was the engaged artiste at Glasshoughton WMC on Monday night; the club was as usual pretty busy despite it being very a cold night. Mark looked smart in a black suit over a crisp white tee shirt; he has a very strong voice and a good range; his sound equipment is excellent and his song introductions are very clear. Mark tells a joke or two in his act and he sings the songs of Roy Orbison,(You Got It), Freddie Mercury , (Don’t Stop Me Now), Tony Christie,(Avenues And Alleyways) and The Bay City Rollers, (Shang A Lang). Mark has been living and working in Tenerife for seven years before coming back to Wakefield. Tenerife’s loss is our gain. You can book Mark Turver through the Ricky Graham Leisure agency. 01977 673500 is the number… Scandal... Girnhill Lane Welcomes Scandal... No...not scandal but the Scandal Duo; South African’s Craig and Audrey are the happy man and wife couple who make up the duo. I turned up in time for the second set which opened with a great soft rock song, ‘Living On A Prayer’. They both dress well for the stage, whether on or off. Audrey was wearing black trousers with a red backless top, and yes! I liked the shoes. Craig was in a black outfit edged with red. They use backing tracks and Craig plays keyboards at which he is quite an expert. More of their songs were, ‘Summer Of 69’, ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ and Lady Ga Ga’s Edge Of Glory’. The dance floor was in full use as Scandal went through a seamless set of songs for everyone. One thing I did notice was the elegant way in which they left the stage. I give you, Craig and Audrey who are, “Scandal”... The acts to appear at the Horshoe Bar in the Blackpool Command Show on Friday, April 13th, 2012 are as follows:-

Westgate common club was very busy on Friday night; it was my Birthday, not just any birthday, it was my 70th. Lots of friends an family turned up to celebrate with me. There were singers there who entertained the people. Jonathan Carroll helped out with the compering. Lee Lambert sang a few songs for us, Jess Pinder and family travelled from Cleethorpes, she sang a couple of songs as did Helena Starz who came with her family from Hull. Thanks to everyone who attended... and to Westgate Common club for the use of the concert room... The Following Night, Saturday, Pat and I met some of our friends, again in Westgate Common, where Glam Rock band, ‘Jeepster’ was the engaged act; they opened with a T Rex number, ‘20th Century Boy’. The band consists of Norry Church, lead vocalist and guitarist, Terry Costello is on lead guitar, keyboards and vocals, bass man is Laurie who also sings and harmonises and finally tHe drummer who is Dean. Four great musicians and singers. There were the songs of Rod Stewart, The Sweet,, The Bay City Rollers, Mud and Slade. Just a few examples of their songs which were, ‘Tell Him’, ‘Shang A Lang’ and ‘I Love To Boogie’. He guys were dressed in long coats, black and white stripes in the style of Tiger Skins, (Not real of Course) and this time it was Pat who, ‘Liked The Shoes’. A great night out for us and our friends... Pictures:- Mr T, (Trevor) and Jeepster.. The Darfield Village Club…
Well it was certainly a very different style of Charity show in aid of the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. Harry Turnstyle opened the show with a couple of songs and some quick fire one liners. (Jokes). He introduced the first act on stage, From Wath On Dearne, ‘Back In Touch’, formerly known as The French Connection. Chris and Sarah are really tuned in with each other with the music and the first class harmonies. They opened with ‘Young Hearts Run Free’ followed by, ‘Valerie’, I’m A Believer’, and ‘Manic Monday’. Chris has a good line in comedy and brought tears of laughter to the eyes of a lady in the audience, I won’t tell you why. A very good duo, “Back In Touch”. Next was another duo from Doncaster called …. Wait for it …. Boo Boo Be Doo, a Tribute to the Musicals and the 50’s. Leslea and Alan are the couple who make up this duo. They both have great voices and they dress in the style of the era’s to which they pay tribute. There were songs from the war years, e.g. ‘Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree’, there were the songs of the Andrews Sisters, songs from the shows of the era and some good old rock and roll. I liked their version of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy… A very interesting duo… The final act was a lady called Angie De Silva from near Penistone. Angie, who has a good strong voice, is a singer of music from the rock and roll era. She did however start with a Celine Dion song, ‘I’m Alive’ and continued with songs by, Chubby Checker and Jerry Lee Lewis. A very good show that raised £385 of much needed money for the Bluebell Wood Hospice for Children… |
