It’s been a long time since I saw Louise Webster as a solo artiste, so I put that right on Monday night when I called at Glasshoughton WMC in Castleford. Louise looked lovely in a long silver sequined top [that changed colour with the stage lights] over black leggings, (I liked the shoes). She has a tremendous personality and her presentation, though laid back is superb. Louise opened her show with Breathless followed by a dance version of Enrico Iglesias’s Hero; she soon had the audience singing along to Marty Wilde's A Teenager In Love. Her programme of songs in this set was very impressive, songs by Diana Ross and the Supremes, Bon Jovi, The Carpenters and a great version of one of my favourite songs, Drift Away. I heard a couple of songs in her second set whilst I managed to get a couple of pictures. If you haven’t see Louise Webster, give yourself a treat and see her when she appears near you..

It's Thanks once again for all the prizes for our Raffle each week; this helps us to keep booking top artistes Tracy Lea At The Prince Of Wales. The Prince Of Wales club in Nevison, Pontefract was pretty busy on Sunday night; the artiste on stage was Tracy Lea who looked good in a tight fitting black satin dress with black suede shoes to match. Tracy has a fine voice and good sound equipment. Some of her songs were, ‘I Drove All Night’, ‘Breathless’, ‘Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad’ and a lovely version of Adele’s, ‘Make You Feel My Love’. there were more country songs in her set of which one I liked was her own interpretation of, ‘Don’t Be Stupid’. Well done Tracy Lea… Sugar Rush At New Brooke House WMC The New Brooke House Club was very busy on Saturday night, (February 26th) when the three girls trio Sugar Rush appeared on stage; these girls just get better. The voices and the harmonies are very good; they carry a good sound system and know how to use it. Furthermore the girls enjoy themselves and judging by the smiles from the members, they do too. I am a firm believer that if you enjoy yourself, your audience will too. There were lots of songs that included audience participation. Some of the songs from Sugar Rush were, Soul Man, Only You, (the Flying Pickets version), Under the Moon Of Love, they closed the set I saw with a Beatles song, Let It Be Sung in perfect harmony.. Sugar Rush had quite a few followers. They are a freelance act and can be booked direct, send an email to [email protected] or through reputable agencies. Sonyx In The City (The City Club in Wakefield was busy on Friday night when the boy/girl duo Sonyx was the artiste on stage. Janine and Brian make up this terrific duo. Brian, dressed in black with silver accessories, opened with a superb classic guitar solo that received a good round of applause. Enter the lovely Janine dressed in a short black tassle dress, (Loved her shoes); Janine has a fine voice, she joined Brian in a medley of songs, (Everlasting Love, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Will You Still Love me Tomorrow and back to Everlasting Love). Some other songs were; When You Say Nothing At All and Brown Eyed Girl. Sonyx know how to entertain an audience and had this one singing along to Rose Garden. A duet followed with Brian on Banjo and Janine on keyboards playing a super version of Duelling Banjos. A very good show from Sonyx who I would recommend ; they have lots of humour in their act! excellent entertainers... Thursday Night was very quiet at the Willow Park Social club in Pontefract for the Ricky Graham auditions. Four acts came along to see if they could impress the agent. First was a very well dressed man from Retford called David James; he has a fine voice and sng in his set 'Come On Everybody, Somebody Help Me, We Like To Boogie' and many more. It was a good mix of songs and I hope we see him in our clubs soon.
Next was Barnsley's Carla Kay; she looked beautiful in a short red dress, [I would have liked the shoes but she took them off], songs she Included in her set were 'Colours Of The Wind, Beyonce's Ave Maria andStupid Cupid', Dean Hollloway was next up dressed in a pair of black trousers, black shirt and a white jacket, a- la- Shakin' Stevens, Shake Rattle And Roll and Move It were a couple of his songs. The last act from Liverpool was having some problems with his equipment and it was taking some time to fix so I didn't hear what he could do. Pictured:- David James, Dean Holloway and Carla Kay... Vocaltutor Junior Star Search…
There were more people in Westgate Common Club for the fourth heat of the Vocaltutor Junior Starsearch which compere Jonathan Carroll opened with ‘Gimme the Night’. There were 10 acts all vying for a place in the final on March 9th but only two can progress from the heat. First act was Ashton Roberts who looked trendy in her outfit. Ashton sang ‘Mama Do and Hurt’; Ashton has a nice voice but it sounded like a nervous spot. Next up was Mya Thompson who has quite a nice voice, Mya sang, ‘If I Ain’t Got You and You Make A Dream For Me’. The only boy on the show was Jamie Welsh who sang ‘Just The Way You Are and Rule The World’, I think this young man will have a lot to offer in about a years time. Twisted was next, a two girls duo; They sang ‘Telephone' and 'I Love The Way You Lie’. Both the girls in Twisted have good voices but one of them, Jess was nursing a cold. Closing the first half was a girl called Anya Simpson; Anya has a special voice and knows how to use it. She sang ‘I’m Alive and a very touching song called 'Oh Mother’, she finished the song by saying to her mum, “I Love You Mum”. After the interval Jonathan introduced Jess Pinder who is part of the aforesaid Twisted, Jess sang in her set, ‘I Look At You and Make You Feel My Love’.Although she was nursing that cold she gave a good account of herself. Leisha Marie was the next contestant; she has a superb voice and looked lovely. Leisha sang ‘Stay and Cool Rider’. Enter Angel Wareham who also has a strong voice but in my opinion was a little quiet when she started her set; it got stronger as she grew a little more confident, Angel sang the Beatles ’Yesterday and Elaine Paige's Memory’. The final act was a girl duo called Distracted, two nice voices; one of the girls plays guitar and did just that when they sang ‘Fireworks’, their other song was ‘Can’t Stop Believing’. There were some very nice outfits for the stage which I think is very important. As I said earlier only two can go to the final from each heat and the two acts chosen by the panel of judges, [Katie-Jo, Laura McCormick, Keith Jones and Rob Kerr], were, in no particular order, Angel Wareham and Anya Simpson. Well done you guys… Left to right it's Anya Simpson and Angel Wareham, the second picture includes show presenter, Jonathan Carroll, Who's that on the lower picture? It's Pete Hammond and his lovely lady... They are regular supporters of Star Search. Due to a filming session in London, family band BeardSmith is unable to appear at Girnhill Lane club on Saturday March 5th. they will be booked as soon as they have a free date but the earliest Saturday night will probably be next year. In their place will be a band I have admired for a good few years now, "Martin Burton's Soulmen", a good quality act... Don't be late, they are good... Left to right; Chris on bass, Alan on drums and Pete on guitar. The Hanks Tops At Gilly’s!It was very pleasing to see a good and appreciative crowd of country music lovers in the City Club in Wakefield on Tuesday night where Chris Gill, (Gilly) runs his country music club. On stage was a three piece band called, “The Hanks”. This band is absolutely superb and looking round the concert room whilst they were on stage I noted that everyone’s eyes were on the stage. The line up is Pete on rhythm guitar, Chris is the bass player/vocalist and Alan is the drummer/vocalist. First class harmonies and a good mix of country songs. A couple of the songs were, ‘Match Box’ and ‘I Can’t Help It If I’m Still In Love With You’ there were songs by Carl Perkins and Hank Williams. It’s good to see and hear a ‘Live Band’. Other artistes featured were, Web Pierce, Dixie chicks, Dwight Yokum and George Jones. Loved it.... Harry Clarke, (Known throughout club land as 'Simply H') appeared at the Wakefield City club on Sunday night. 'H' has a lovely smooth yet strong voice for his rock 'n roll and ballads mostly from the 50's and 60's. The lounge was very busy this week and 'H' was on form. A couple of quizzes were in his set. He sings the songs of Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, John Leighton, Marty Wilde, Bobby Rydell and many others. In his second set 'H' sang Bobby Vee's 'Rubber Ball', two well endowed ladies were up dancing!!!. 'H' sent me a text telling me the second set really opened up and he had a super night. Pleased you had a good night "H". Simply 'H' is available through the Gordon Kellett agency... |
